The vintage wall clock you see today from this time period will be one that has carved upright finials, curved moldings and carvings all over it.  Traditionally it was an item that although very ornate was one that would be used in the kitchen of the grander properties.

At this time the clocks that were being made were ones that were traditional made using walnut, however a few were constructed from white oak or mahogany. Plus these wall clocks would come with different mechanisms to allow them to work.

In most cases vintage wall clocks would be fitted either with a key which would need to be turned regularly to keep the movement going.  Whilst the other sort were known as skeleton clocks that were driven by a chain or a pendulum that swings.  However, today it is quite possible to obtain a vintage wall clock that is quartz driven and is powered by batteries.
